Learning to Type ⌨️
⌨️ 1989, I learned to touch type at college.
A few years later, I was teaching my trainees the same skill using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, on floppy disks (and no, not the “save” icon, the actual plastic square you could throw like a Frisbee). Or maybe it was on a CD-ROM… which was basically a shiny disc you could use for typing practice and as an emergency drinks coaster.
Back then I knew typing would be an essential skill for the future.
Today, I wonder: will typing remain essential as we move into a world of AI, dictation, and voice commands?
