• Gender Diversity in Leadership roles: Is this on your agenda?

This is such a growing topic of conversation amongst the discerning Director teams in the UK. So many organisations are keen to encourage their female talent to have a proactive role in scoping out their career paths, but find challenge in how to structure this.

I came across a really interesting article by Sara Bean around culture change, and one particular noteworthy point was "“To remain competitive in a changing economy, businesses need to recognise that women have different competencies than men, and embrace and nurture those unique skills.”

Rather than waiting until a leadership position presents itself and then bundling an individual into a long and intense Management Certification, businesses benefit hugely from identifying high potential female talent at all career stages. By nurturing their feminine characteristics and empowering them to propose new ideas, structures and long term strategic plans, businesses can begin growing their future leaders from day 1.

“Our research shows that if the current hiring, promotion and attrition patterns remain, female representation at professional levels and above will remain unchanged at 38 percent over the next five years.  It is important that UK organisations take a more holistic approach to the issue, focusing on retention and internal development, and not only executive hiring.”
