Recent findings reveal a positive shift in energy consumption habits among UK businesses, with average energy usage decreasing by 4.6% compared to the previous year. Each business now utilizes over 25MWh of energy annually, marking a significant reduction in energy demand.

The latest Energy Barometer Report, released by POWWR, sheds light on this encouraging trend while highlighting notable regional variations. Businesses in South Wales, for instance, consume nearly a third more energy than their counterparts in London, while those in South Scotland use 15% more energy than their Northern counterparts.

This reduction in energy usage not only benefits the environment but also translates into tangible savings for businesses. On average, businesses have seen a remarkable 38% drop in electricity spending compared to the previous year. However, it's important to note that there are still disparities in energy costs across regions, with businesses in North Wales paying approximately £1,000 more annually than those in London.

Matt Tormollen, Chief Executive Officer at POWWR, attributes this positive change primarily to the efforts of large companies under significant stakeholder and regulatory pressure to reduce their energy consumption. Their proactive approach towards energy efficiency sets a precedent for other businesses, highlighting the importance of sustainability in today's corporate landscape.

As businesses continue to prioritise energy efficiency and sustainability, it's imperative to amplify efforts across all sectors and regions. By adopting innovative technologies, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of sustainability, businesses can further reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for all.

The positive momentum in reducing energy consumption among UK businesses underscores the collective commitment to environmental stewardship and underscores the potential for continued progress in the journey towards a more sustainable economy.
